Foundations of EA

Author: Saurabh Mittal, PhD

Enterprise Architecture has its roots in the 1960s. It came about to analyze areas of common activity within or between other resources that are exchanged to guide the future state of the organization or the enterprise, from an integrated viewpoint of strategy, business and technology. EA is a strategic tool used to guide investment decision and technical direction of an organization necessary to fulfill its business imperatives. It is intended to help an organization evolve its business processes and Information Technology (IT) capabilities from their current state to a desired, integrated future state within financial and technological constraints, thereby strategically positioning the organization for the future.

In this topical area, we present:

  • Historical perspective on EA, and
  • EA principles
